Vancouver Volkswagen · March 2026
Canada has a new federal EV incentive -- and the Volkswagen ID.4 is fully eligible across all trim levels. Here's everything you need to know.
At Vancouver Volkswagen, we've been receiving a lot of questions about the new federal EV rebate -- who qualifies, how much it's worth, and whether the ID.4 is covered. As Canada's #1 volume EV dealer, we've been working closely with the program details since it launched and want to give you a clear, honest breakdown.
The short answer: yes, the ID.4 qualifies -- every single trim level. And when you combine the federal rebate with current Volkswagen manufacturer incentives, we're seeing some of the largest discounts we've ever offered on this vehicle.
The old iZEV federal incentive has been replaced by the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) -- a 5-year, $2.3 billion federal commitment to make EVs more accessible to Canadians. The program officially launched on February 16, 2026.
The key difference from the old program: there is no income limit. Any Canadian resident purchasing a new battery-electric vehicle with a final transaction value of $50,000 or less qualifies for up to $5,000 in federal incentives -- no means testing, no income threshold.
Key Program Details
✓ Up to $15,000 for the 2025 ID.4
✓ No income restriction -- open to all Canadian residents
✓ Applied directly at the dealership -- no forms to file afterward
✓ Eligible transactions from February 16, 2026 onward
Every trim of the ID.4 qualifies for $5,000 in federal EVAP rebates combined with up to $10,000 in Volkswagen manufacturer incentives, for a total of up to $15,000 in savings.

The process is straightforward, and our team handles all of the paperwork directly at the dealership. Here's how it works:
Step 1 -- Choose your ID.4
Connect with a Brand Specialist to select your desired trim and options.
Step 2 -- Sign a consent form
Our team submits an eligibility request to Transport Canada on your behalf. You sign one simple form -- we handle the rest.
Step 3 -- Get approved (valid 90 days)
Once approved, your eligibility holds for 90 days while you finalize your decision.
Step 4 -- Savings applied at purchase
The rebate is deducted directly from your purchase price after taxes and fees. Instant savings at point of sale -- no waiting for a cheque.
Transport Canada has confirmed EVAP operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the $2.3 billion in allocated funding is gone, the program ends -- regardless of the 2031 end date.
Beyond the funding risk, the rebate amount itself decreases every year. Buying in 2026 locks in the maximum $5,000. Wait until 2027 and it drops to $4,000. By 2030 it's down to $2,000.
